Epifan Iovich Kovtiukh (1890–1938)
A Komkor, a hero of the Russian Civil War, and a man whose name has been carefully passed down through generations.
Born into a peasant family on May 21, 1890, in the south of the Russian Empire, he rose from a staff captain in the Imperial Army during World War I to one of the most respected commanders in the Red Army. He was known as a skilled strategist and a principled leader, fully committed to service.
In 1938, during the height of the Great Terror, he was arrested and executed on false charges. In 1956, he was posthumously rehabilitated.
We preserve the memory of Epifan Kovtiukh’s tragic fate.
In our family, he remains forever as the one who saved our lineage — but could not save himself.
This page is a step in restoring his name to the place of honor it deserves.

“His name passes through our family from lips to lips. He saved our family. But himself — he could not.”
