🕵️‍♂️ Unmasking the Phantom

🕳️ Released Phantom Node 31: Nursultan Nazarbayev. Elbasy. Father of Kleptocracy

Stability” can be the most expensive disguise.

Kazakhstan gained independence — but not autonomy.

The system built by Nazarbayev inherited Soviet authoritarianism and fused it with the unrestrained plunder of global capitalism.

Node type: Post-Soviet Authoritarian Kleptocracy

State: Centralized control and nepotism

Mechanism of hold: Fear, personality cult, elite enrichment

Image: Elbasy — the untouchable guarantor of stability

Replaced phantom with: Transparent governance, rule of law, accountability

Core of the Node

All power in one man’s hands

Natural resources used to enrich a small elite

Judicial system weaponized

Media strictly controlled

Protests violently suppressed

What held it in place?

Total media control

Simulated democracy

A power structure built on family and loyalty

International legitimacy through investment partnerships

How did it become a phantom?

Stepped down officially, but remained in control

Successors operated under his shadow

Became a symbol “not to be touched”

Why does the phantom still exist?

Cities and institutions still bear his name

Family and close allies remain in key positions

Fear that questioning him could cause instability

Phantom’s Current State

Weakened, not gone

His name is being removed

But the system he built still persists

After the Regime

January 2022: a major popular attempt to break the phantom

Brutal repression followed — the structure was intact

People demand not only symbolic change, but structural dismantling

Collective Response

We didn’t choose the Elbasy. But we can choose a future without him.

Guiding Principle

You cannot build freedom on fear — even when disguised as ‘stability’.

A graphite portrait of Nursultan Nazarbayev on aged paper. His stern face dominates the foreground, dressed in a formal suit. Behind him are vague silhouettes symbolizing elites tied to his rule. The atmosphere is somber, rendered in muted graphite tones with a sense of invisible control.

🔬 Dissection of a Phantom Node: Criminal Regimes, Tools, and Influences

🫧 Phantom Node Dossier: Nursultan Nazarbayev. Deep Network of Control

Key Aspects of the Phantom:

"Eternal Father of the Nation" (or "Father of the Steppe", "Leader of the Nation"). This reflects his attempt to create a perpetual cult of personality and a system where his influence remains dominant, despite formal changes in leadership.

Regimes (which he directly shapes/supports):

🟠 Authoritarianism: This is the main regime. Nazarbayev built a strict authoritarian system where all power was concentrated in his hands, and political competition was minimal or non-existent.

💰 Kleptocracy: A very strong aspect. Kazakhstan, under his leadership, became a classic example of kleptocracy, where vast natural riches (oil, gas) were used to enrich a narrow circle of elites close to Nazarbayev, and his own family.

🧱 Totalitarianism (Elements/Potential): While it wasn't full totalitarianism in the classic sense (like North Korea or the USSR), the regime had strong totalitarian elements in its control over media, society, and especially in attempts to control even remote provinces and form a "unified ideology" through state media.

Tools (which he actively uses/oversees):

🗣️ Propaganda: Actively used to create a cult of personality for the "Father of the Nation" (Elbasy), portraying him as the sole guarantor of stability and prosperity. This propaganda had clear megalomaniacal features.

🤫 Censorship: Strict control over the information space, blocking independent media and internet resources to suppress dissent.

⚖️ Selective Laws/Judiciary: The legal system was used to combat political opponents and consolidate power.

👮 Repression/Security Forces: Use of force to suppress protests (e.g., Zhanaozen in 2011, January 2022 events) and persecute dissidents.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Nepotism: Involvement of family members and close associates in key state and business positions.

Civilizational Influences (which he embodies/exploits):

🦅 Post-Soviet Space / Legacy of Empire: Nazarbayev's regime is typical for many post-Soviet countries that failed to fully transition to democracy and retained authoritarian practices. He inherited Soviet management methods but adapted them to the new capitalist reality.

🌐 Globalization (Utilization): Nazarbayev skillfully utilized global economic relations, attracting foreign investments (especially in the energy sector) for the country's development, but this also contributed to kleptocracy and the consolidation of his power.

⚖️ Corruption: As a deeply rooted civilizational influence that permeates many societies, especially in regions with authoritarian regimes and rich natural resources.
