Two Trees
Maturity is not a peak, but a transfer of light.
When we talk about age in leadership, we often get caught between extremes: too young or too old. But almost never — maturity as a gift. The ability not to cling to power, but to pass strength — with grace and in time.
We live in a world where driver’s licenses must be renewed after 60.
Where doctors advise against late parenthood.
Where professions of great responsibility require regular reassessment.
…Why is a president at 70-80 seen as “experienced” — instead of a sign that the system resists renewal?
——
Two trees.
One — old, massive, with shadows that protect.
The other — young, reaching upward, in bloom for the first time.
Between them — a bridge of light.
Not conflict, but continuity.
Not fear of the new, but maturity that knows when to let go of the wheel and remain nearby — not as a captain, but as a mentor.
——
Let the future leader arrive with someone beside them.
Let the older generation take a new seat — as navigator, as compass.
Let maturity become an ethic, not just a number.
People deserve power that breathes.
Wise — and alive.
Alt-text:
Two trees growing from shared ground. On the left, a large old tree with a full canopy; on the right, a slender young tree reaching upward. Between them, a glowing bridge of light, like a stream of energy. The background is deep blue; light flows upward from the base.
