📍 Location:
Isfahan, Chehel Sotoun Palace
In Persian tradition, light is a relentless witness. Justice is understood here as the impossibility of concealing a crime. It is "daylight against dungeons": when space becomes transparent and open, shadows have nowhere to hide. The Chehel Sotoun Palace, with its open terrace and reflecting pool, embodies this social ideal. Light acts as the law: it shines equally on all, revealing the truth and restoring the balance that was disturbed in the darkness.
☀️⚖️ Light — Justice
Light that leaves no place to hide the truth.
In Persian tradition, light is never merely a natural phenomenon. It is a force of revelation, the presence of law, and the measure of justice. Through the image of light, Persian culture shaped an understanding of truth as something inevitable and visible.
The god Mithra (Mehr) — guardian of the sun, contracts, and truth — embodied light as a merciless witness. Justice here means impossibility of concealment: crime becomes visible, lies are burned away. The Chehel Sotoun Palace in Isfahan, with its open terrace and mirrored pool, gives architectural form to this principle. There are no basements or dark corners — only light acting equally upon all, restoring balance broken in darkness.
